California-based classic car auction company Gooding & Co. has announced its plan to auction off a rare 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopa as part of its Geared Online virtual car sale starting later this month.

The hyper-exclusive supercar is one of just 158 examples ever built and is widely considered to be the model to define many precepts of the mid-engine exotic car. First unveiled in prototype at the 1973 Geneva Auto Show, the LP400 features scissor doors, “origami-like” bodywork, a periscope-style rearview mirror and a four-litre V-12 engine that has come to define Italian supercars from the seventies.

According to the Gooding & Co. listing, the 1975 Countach LP400 Periscopa (chassis no. 1120064) is offered in its striking original Blu Metallizzato livery, one of just two examples ever sold to Saudi Arabia in 1975. The early production Countach later went on to be owned by collectors in Germany and Italy before moving to the United States with its current owner.

The supercar has rarely been seen on the open market, making it a highly sought over vehicle to hit the auction block—and this specific example boasts a matching-numbers engine and interesting provenance, which makes it even more of a revered offering.

The 1975 Countach LP400 Periscopa will hit the auction block on October 26 and will be open for bidding until October 30, where it’s expected to fetch between US$900,000 to US$1.1 million. For more information on the exclusive early production Countach or to register to bid in the Geared Online virtual car sale, be sure to visit the official Gooding & Co. website.
