When K-pop groups part ways or go on a hiatus, fans hold onto hope for eventual reunions. Some reunions become reality, bringing overwhelming joy to devoted fans who’ve waited years to see their favourite artists perform together again.

These reunions serve multiple purposes in K-pop culture: closure for fans, celebrating group legacies and often introducing older groups to newer K-pop followers. They also demonstrate how the industry has matured, allowing for different types of reunions beyond traditional comebacks.

Here are some of the most memorable K-pop reunions that continue to spark excitement in the community.

1. 2NE1’s Coachella surprise and concert tour

In what might be one of the most unexpected reunions, legendary K-pop girl group 2NE1 shocked the world with their surprise performance at Coachella 2022. The quartet appeared during CL’s set, performing their hit I Am The Best. It marked their first group performance since their 2016 disbandment. The reunion was particularly meaningful as it brought together CL (Lee Chae-rin), Dara (Sandara Park), Bom (Park Bom) and Minzy (Gong Min-ji) on one of music’s biggest stages, proving their lasting impact on global K-pop.

In 2024, YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk dropped a surprise video announcing that 2NE1 will be reuniting for their 15th anniversary. The highly anticipated celebration began with a concert tour comprising a series of shows extending into 2025.

2. Girls’ Generation’s 15th-anniversary celebration

Girls’ Generation’s complete group comeback in 2022 for their 15th anniversary was a monumental moment in K-pop history. The reunion was particularly meaningful as it marked their first group release since Holiday Night in 2017. All eight members—Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yoona, Sooyoung, Yuri and Seohyun—returned with their seventh studio album Forever 1 despite their busy individual schedules, demonstrating that even as established solo artists and actresses, their group identity remains strong.

3. Bigbang’s historic comeback

After a four-year hiatus, Bigbang made waves with their 2022 comeback single Still Life. It was released via YG Entertainment on April 5, 2022, serving as the group’s first release in four years since Flower Road in 2018, as well as their only release as a quartet, due to T.O.P’s departure the following year. Their emotional lyrics about growth and time’s passage resonated deeply with fans who had waited patiently for their return.

In 2024, the group lit up the stage at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in Osaka, Japan, in what has been deemed as “the comeback of all comebacks”. G-Dragon first stepped onto the stage to perform his solo songs before members Taeyang and Daesung joined him shortly after to enthral the audience with their most recent collaboration track, Home Sweet Home, followed by a mashup of the group’s hit songs, Fantastic Baby and Bang Bang Bang.

4. Kara’s emotional return

Although Kara officially disbanded in 2016, the K-pop girl group’s 2022 comeback to commemorate their 15th anniversary was especially poignant. Their return with Move Again brought together members spanning different generations of the group, including Nicole and Jiyoung who had departed years earlier. The members also took to Instagram to share photos from their get-together, tagging their late former bandmate, Goo Hara, in each of their posts.

In 2022, the group also reunited on stage at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) for the first time in seven years, performing a mashup of their popular songs, Lupin, Step and Mister. After the release of Move Again, Kara held fan meetings in Japan and South Korea, as well as a concert tour in Japan. Kara’s reunion celebrated their legacy while introducing their music to a new generation of K-pop fans.

5. Block B sends fans into meltdown

Block B’s reunion in 2024 marked a milestone for the group and a rare treat for their fans. After their military enlistments, all seven members—Taeil, B-Bomb, Jaehyo, U-Kwon, Park Kyung, Zico and P.O.—came together on Zico’s show, The Seasons: Artist with ZICO. The reunion was particularly meaningful as it occurred after the members had established successful individual careers—Zico as one of South Korea’s most prominent producer-rappers, P.O. as a beloved entertainment personality and other members pursuing various solo endeavours.

What made the group’s reunion special was the genuine camaraderie displayed by the members, showing that their bond remained strong despite pursuing separate paths. Their performances maintained Block B’s characteristic high-energy style and playful stage presence, elements that had been missed in the K-pop landscape during their hiatus.

6. Got7 marks 11th anniversary

After Got7 departed from JYP Entertainment in January 2021 following the expiration of their contract with the agency, they signed with Warner Music Korea as a group while pursuing solo activities. Having flourished in their solo careers, all seven members—Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam and Yugyeom—decided to reunite to celebrate their 11th anniversary.

Got7 leader Jay B announced the news during his solo concert Tape : Re Load in December 2024, saying, “I’ve been given permission from the members to be the one to break it. I’ve been trying hard to make it happen. Got7 will reunite to make a comeback in January next year.” Member BamBam also reacted to the news, confirming the comeback shortly after on social media. In January 2025, Got7 dropped Winter Heptagon, their first mini-album in three years since the release of their last EP, Got7. The group also held their NESTFEST concert from January 31 to February 2 at the Handball Arena of Seoul Olympic Park.
