Front & Female Awards Hong Kong 2022 winner and voting committee member Jennifer Yu Cheng, group president and deputy vice chairwoman of CTF Education Group, on Founder Award winner Sarah Tong, co-founder and CEO of Big Bang Academy
Sarah Tong’s passion for reimagining STEM education and dedication to empowering young women set her apart. As co-founder and CEO of Big Bang Academy, Sarah has made waves in the edtech world for redefining the way children engage with STEM subjects. Disillusioned by the narrow focus of traditional STEM education, Sarah’s holistic approach nurtures curiosity, creativity and confidence in children as young as three.
Under her leadership, Big Bang Academy has become a global force in inspiring scientific exploration, reaching 25,000 students worldwide and partnering with over 80 schools across Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. The platform’s hands-on curriculum empowers young learners—especially girls—to see science not just as a subject but as a “world of wonder”.

In 2023, Sarah spearheaded Project Alpha, a STEAM public speaking competition designed to unlock children’s potential in science and technology. Big Bang Academy also expanded globally through partnerships with top universities to offer international study tours.
Recognised for her work as a 2024 Women in STEM Fellow by Global Women Asia, Sarah is not only closing the gender gap in STEM but also equipping the next generation with the skills, confidence and opportunities to become future innovators. Her journey exemplifies how purpose-driven leadership can galvanise education for a better, more inclusive future, and I can think of no one more deserving for the Founder Award.
