A Sneak Peek On Virgil Abloh's Louis Vuitton x NBA Capsule
Mark your calendars for November 20, because that's the day LVxNBA, the Virgil Abloh-led Louis Vuitton collaboration with the National Basketball Association arrives in stores—and it's bound to be one of the most important (and most-coveted) menswear luxury capsule collections in recent memory. Conceived and created based on the ways NBA players dress—comprising "three main dress codes," according to the announcement. "Travels and transits are embodied in a grey cashmere tracksuit adorned with graphics informed by the lines of a basketball; game arrivals manifest in a blue hooded leather jacket, monogram jeans and T-shirts; and the press conference dress code is expressed in suits and a dress shirt"—the collaboration also includes reinterpreted Vuitton bag and accessories silhouettes adorned with NBA logos and more nuanced touches. "A Keepall features a netted side detail evocative of a basketball hoop. Shoes meld the insignia of Louis Vuitton and NBA in classic loafers, chunky-soled leather derbies, slip-ons, and in lace-up leather boots fused with components from existing sneakers; each recognisable by the new LVxNBA emblem embossed on the footbed."
The collection embodies the growing scope of modern luxury—a landscape that's far more inclusive and relatable than before.
"Fashion muses aren't predictable," Abloh says in a statement. "Ideas of luxury can be found in the sports world and its champions as much as in traditional forms of artistry. This collection celebrates the cultural contribution of basketball and its diverse characters, and the idea of relatability as a force of unity today."
