Porsche Design and Ananda Development unveil the ultra-luxurious residential tower Porsche Design Tower Bangkok, setting a new benchmark for branded residences across Asia

The Porsche brand might typically be associated with its birthplace of Stuttgart in Germany, or the sun-drenched coast of Miami, where it has established an architectural presence with a 60-storey residential tower, but did you know Bangkok has one of the most zealous Porsche communities in the world?

Since 2016, the city has hosted Das Treffen, the largest and most vibrant annual gathering and celebration of Porsche enthusiasts and owners in Asia—an amazing feat considering that in Thailand, taxes on imported luxury vehicles can reach up to 328 per cent of their retail price.

Chanond Ruangkritya, chief executive officer of Thai property developer Ananda Development and a fixture in the country’s Porsche community, created a two-minute highlight video of Das Treffen that celebrated the 30th anniversary of Porsche in Thailand and sent it to the Porsche AG headquarters with a succinct message that they needed to do something bigger in the country.

“I remember the day we received the video package and the note clearly. We watched it and we’re like: “Wow! The opportunity came to us and we were stunned,” shares Stefan Buescher, chairman of the executive board of Porsche Lifestyle Group. At that time, Porsche AG was indeed looking to expand its real estate presence in Asia Pacific, and had already compiled the data on the community in Thailand.

Fast forward to August 2024, when Porsche Design and Ananda Development unveiled the result of their collaboration: the first Porsche branded residence in Asia—Porsche Design Tower Bangkok.

The Porsche Design Tower Bangkok is different from the other two Porsche-branded residential projects, but at the same time, its character feels like a natural fit for Bangkok.

Where the Stuttgart development is a mixed-use tower that includes offices and a hotel, and the Miami tower offers 132 duplex apartments in a beachfront residential tower with a private sky garage, the Porsche Design Tower Bangkok offers only 22 apartment units valued between US$15 to $40 million, comprising 20 duplexes and two quadplex penthouses dubbed the Sky Villas. “They are truly collector’s items,” says Ruangkritya.

Located in the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant Thonglor area, the tower is slated for completion in 2028. The units, ranging from 5,651 to 12,217 sq ft, aim to set a new benchmark for luxury urban living with their design, suited to Bangkok’s continuous ascent as a playground for the affluent with its real estate sector deemed among the most stable in the Southeast Asian region, on a par with Northeast Asian markets like Japan and South Korea.

“A product’s shape becomes obvious when it’s the result of its purpose,” third-generation Porsche owner and designer Ferdinand “Butzi” Alexander Porsche once famously said. This statement aligns with the modernist form-follows-function philosophy, in which as a design matures and its purpose becomes clearer, its shape becomes more self-evident and natural.

This principle holds true in Porsche Design Tower Bangkok’s design, which boasts a wealth of details that will delight Porsche and sports car design buffs everywhere.

Highlights of each residential unit include the Passion Space, which is essentially a multipurpose zone accessible via a spiral car ramp that can be imagined as a hobby garage, a workshop, an entertainment den—you name it; the owner’s imagination is the limit.

“Our aspiration is to create a living space where one’s passion thrives,” says Buescher. The facade of each terraced unit, an eight-metre-tall triple-glazed glass wall, can be folded up via an automated system to facilitate a seamless indoor-outdoor living zone. This mechanism is inspired by the kinetic move of the Porsche 911 Targa’s roof.

Residents will enjoy a plethora of high-end amenities designed for comfort and exclusivity, including a 25-metre swimming pool, a performance fitness centre, a spa and a social lounge.

Each unit will feature three state-of-the-art kitchens furnished with professional-grade fit-outs and appliances from brands such as Arclinea, Sub-zero, Wolf, Josper and Marrone. Paying homage to its Asian location, one of the kitchens is specifically designed to accommodate wok-style cooking.

With the Porsche Design Tower Bangkok, the collaboration between Porsche Design and Ananda Development is not only about creating luxurious living spaces, but also about fostering a community where passion and lifestyle converge.

As the project progresses, it promises to set new standards for luxury living in Asia, attracting discerning buyers who seek not just a home, but an experience that deeply resonates with their identity and aspirations.

Porsche AG and Ananda Development have established a committee to carefully assess each prospective owner of the 22 units to maintain a like-minded community within the building. As Ruangkritya elaborates: “It’s about whether you fit the brand and lifestyle. The residents are not just purchasing a home, but also becoming part of a whole lifestyle ecosystem.”

As anticipation builds for its completion, the development looks poised to be the ultimate Porsche collector’s item, one that will redefine the landscape of branded residences in the region.
