Song Hye-Kyo's Has A New Drama, 5 Things To Know About "Now We Are Breaking Up"
On the hunt for new Korean dramas to watch to this year? Major casting news has just been revealed. Song Hye-kyo's new drama is confirmed following reports in November of last year that she was considering an offer to star in it. The popular South Korean actress will be making her comeback to the small screen in Now We Are Breaking Up this year.
To keep you on your toes with all the excitement, we break down everything we know about the upcoming K-drama.
1/5 Her character will be a fashion lover
Song Hye-kyo's character, Ha Young-eun will be an extension of the actress' fashionable style. Song will be playing a "trendy, intelligent and realist" manager of a fashion label's design team.
Hot on the heels of becoming Fendi's first South Korean global ambassador and endorsing other brands such as Chaumet and Bottega Veneta, we can expect some stylish looks and designer pieces from the Tatler's Most Stylish 2020 honouree.
2/5 The show will feature a charismatic leading man
Model-turned-actor, Jang Ki-yong will be playing Song's leading man. A stylish actor in his own right, Jang caught the attention of many from his roles in Go Back Couple (2017) and My Mister (2018) which eventually landed hun his first lead role in Come and Hug Me (2018). A series of dramas followed including Search: WWW (2019) and Born Again (2020). This new role might just be the rising actor's biggest break yet, playing Yoon Jae-Guk, who's described as a "wealthy and popular freelance photographer who has the brains and the looks."
If the characters play right by the age of Song (39 years old) and Jang (28 years old), that we may get another noona romance (pairing of an older female lead with a younger male lead) following Song's last drama, Encounter (2018).
3/5 Along with a stellar supporting cast
A star-studded cast is no surprise for a Song Hye-kyo drama and Now We Are Breaking Up is no exception. Choi Hee-seo from Mistress (2018) and Stranger 2 (2020) will be playing Hwang Chi-sook, Ha's high schoolmate and director of the fashion label's design team.
In addition, Kim Joo-heon from It's Okay to Not Be Okay (2020) and Start-up (2020) will be taking on the role of Seok Do-hoon, a skilled PR company CEO.
It was reported in November 2020 that Soo Ae (who would've been making her comeback after four years) and Yoo Teo (who would've nabbed his first lead role) were first offered the main roles but both declined the offer.
4/5 And an A-list production team
Aside from the main leads and supporting cast, the crew helming the drama is also an impressive list of A-listers from the industry. Lee Gil-bok will be taking the director's seat, he previously helmed hit dramas such as My Love from the Star (2013) with Jun Ji-hyun, Vagabond (2019) and Dr Romantic 2 (2020).
The drama will be written by Je In, who previously worked on Misty (2018). Earlier reports said that popular screenwriter, Kim Eun-sook who worked with Song on Descendants of the Sun (2016) and The King: Eternal Monarch (2020) will be penning the drama but it's been confirmed that Je In will be working on it instead.
5/5 Plot and release date
There's not much mention of the plot yet as of now except that it will "tell stories of emotional love and breakups" as hinted by the title. Filming is slated to begin in April with the target release date in the second half of 2021. SBS will be producing the drama as well.
