It's not unusual for a celebrity to give an interview. Yet, while most of them are usually forgotten within the next news cycle, these unforgettable dialogues have become an important part of our contemporary pop culture

From Michael Jackson to OJ Simpson, and the recent Oprah interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, we tally down some of the most unforgettable celebrity interviews through the decades.

1/6 Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Oprah's interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was quite the spectacle. Not only were there bombshell allegations thrown around, but the interview in itself seems to have set off multiple consequences both in the United States and in the United Kingdom. There were rebuttals, speculations, and more than a handful of internet memes, all of which seem to have divided the audience into the people who supported the young couple, and people who thought otherwise. Even to this day, headlines have been rippling off from the said event, which continues to be a trending topic among those who follow the Royal family.

2/6 Princess Diana

Much like her son, Princess Diana once gave a startling interview on her life in the Royal Family. In 1995, she'd sat down with Martin Bashir, and for the first time, commented on her marriage, saying that there were "three of us [in the marriage]", referring to Camilla Parker-Bowles. Months after this interview, in 1996, Princess Diana would divorce Prince Charles.

In 2021, Martin Bashir has yet again made headlines. A recent documentary entitled The Diana Interview: Revenge of a Princess claims that the journalist had used fake bank statements "and other dishonesty" to convince the princess to agree to the interview. Investigations are currently being launched.

3/6 Michael Jackson

Nineteen ninety-three (1993) might have been a difficult year for the King of Pop. At this time, speculation and scrutiny were at an all-time high. People were constantly buzzing away on the colour of Michael Jackson's skin. The singer, who rose to fame as a child in The Jackson 5, had noticeably white skin despite his African-American heritage. In his Oprah Winfrey interview, the artist spoke about why he "kept getting whiter and whiter", revealing that he had a skin disorder called vitiligo that destroyed his skin pigmentation. "It's a problem for me. I can't control it. But what about all the millions of people who sit in the sun to become darker, to become other than what they are. Nobody says nothing about that," he'd said.

4/6 Britney Spears

With the recent coverage of the documentary Framing Britney Spears, fans have once again turned their heads towards the 90s pop sensation. Spears, who in her youth was hounded by paparazzi and was sexualised at a young age, is (sadly) no stranger to cruel interviews and inappropriate questions. One of the more extreme interviews was the one she had with Diane Sawyer in 2003. In it, Sawyer accuses Spears of "breaking [Justin Timberlake's] heart" and continues on with a misogynistic rationale, ultimately making Spears cry. Now, under the lens of a more progressive society, people are calling for Sawyer to apologise to Spears for the harsh way the journalist treated the then twenty-year-old.

5/6 OJ Simpson

In 2018, a "lost" interview surfaced of OJ Simpson discussing the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. This is said to be the only interview in which Simpson discusses the events of that day in 1994 and even hypothetically "confesses" to committing the crime. It's a hair-raising clip and one that brought about much buzz in the latter half of the 2010s.

6/6 Jordyn Woods

A nod to more contemporary times, we take a look at Jordyn Wood's interview with Jada Pinkett Smith on Red Table Talk. In it, the young social media influencer addresses rumours about her cheating scandal with Khloe Kardashian's boyfriend, Tristan Thompson. As with anything that usually surrounds the Kardashians, these allegations made headlines and the video even set a Facebook viewing record with 7.5 million views in 24 hours.
